GYBA and The Drake Durkee Foundation
“Drake Durkee Hustle Award”
The Drake Durkee Hustle Award honors the memory of Golden resident, Drake Durkee, who in his short time on this earth, showed what it meant to be a good person and true friend to his peers. He was known for his charismatic personality and big heart and was always there for those kids that needed companionship and/or extra encouragement.
Drake was also active in Golden youth sports. By all accounts, he was one of the kindest, hardest working and most tenacious defenders that has played for GYBA. Drake's spirit, passion, work ethic and coach ability are traits GYBA hopes to instill in all our young athletes.
The award is presented annually to two student athletes in the GYBA program that unequivocally represent spirit and hustle. It will be given to two members of GYBA each year, one boy and one girl, that display the hard-working, defensive minded spirit that Drake brought to his team every time he stepped on to the court.
All GYBA Coaches may submit Drake Durkee Hustle Award Candidate Nominations in December of each year. A selection committee from the Drake Durkee Foundation will chose the season's winners. The award will be presented to the two winners at half-time during one of the Golden High Schools Varsity Home Basketball Games (TBA).
